FAQ

Some Questions
What is SONIX?

SONIX is the next-generation gaming and community platform built for players, creators, and esports teams. It connects people through ultra-low latency voice chat, AI-powered audio, video calls, live streaming, tournaments, and 3D avatars — all inside one platform designed for performance and community engagement.

SONIX is the first all-in-one gaming platform with:

  • SONIX App: Ultra-high-performance voice chat
  • SONIX Arena: Built-in tournaments
  • Custom 3D avatars and mini-games: creating gamified engagement tools for teams and creators

Developed by engineers from EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), SONIX combines world-class AI audio technology and cloud scalability to deliver crystal-clear communication and near-zero latency. Its AI voice engine automatically removes background noise, echo, and keyboard sounds, ensuring that every word is heard clearly — whether you’re in a live esports match or streaming with fans.

Unlike Discord, SONIX was built specifically for competitive gamers and esports communities, focusing on performance, team collaboration, and in-game optimization rather than general social chatting. Although still in beta, SONIX is already used by professional and collegiate teams worldwide and was selected by Intel as the official voice communication platform for the Intel Extreme Masters Open Seat Demo.

SONIX Arena is a powerful, Esports tournament platform that makes organizing competitions effortless for communities, brands, and gaming organizations. With bracket management, automated seeding, real-time scoring, and live event tracking, SONIX Arena eliminates manual setup and lets you focus on the gameplay.

Whether you’re hosting a small local event or a global esports championship, SONIX Arena scales seamlessly. It supports all major tournament formats — single elimination, double elimination, and round robin — across PC and mobile. Integrated sponsor placement, notifications, and streaming tools make it ideal for both casual and professional organizers.

Can I create or manage my own server on SONIX?

SONIX App: In SONIX, servers are called Crews. Why? Because SONIX is “Teamspeak without servers.” Servers were a thing 10 years ago; now you can create a Crew with friends in two clicks, without the need to manually set anything up.

A Crew is your customizable hub where you can gather friends, fans, or teammates in just two clicks. SONIX eliminates the outdated complexity of manual server setup, offering a cloud-native system where you can create your space instantly.

Each Crew can have custom channels, permissions, and automation tools. Inviting friends is simple: share a custom invite link or Crew code, and they can join instantly from any device.

SONIX Arena: Creating a tournament in SONIX Arena takes just minutes. After signing up, you can create your event, choose a game, format, and participant limit, and SONIX’s automation handles registration, seeding, notifications, and live updates. The dashboard provides a clear overview of brackets, match progress, and streaming links.

For beginners, SONIX offers step-by-step guides and tutorial videos. Whether you’re a community organizer or an esports league manager, SONIX Arena delivers the tools you need to run smooth, scalable, and engaging tournaments — without technical complexity.

Sponsors: SONIX Arena makes sponsorship simple and effective. Organizers can integrate sponsor logos, ads, and prize pools directly into tournaments and live streams. Brands can track visibility and engagement metrics via built-in analytics, ensuring measurable ROI.

The system also supports sponsor placements, enabling contextual promotion during matches, streams, and highlight reels. This helps organizers monetize tournaments and helps brands connect with gaming audiences more authentically.

What is the story behind SONIX — and what’s our mission?

SONIX was founded by a group of EPFL engineers and audio researchers who broke the world record for ultra-low-latency communication at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Their goal was simple but ambitious: to bring that same breakthrough in AI audio performance to the world of gaming and esports. From the beginning, SONIX has represented the future of online communication, merging AI-powered voice processing, instant collaboration, and gamified community interaction inside a single, performance-driven platform. It isn’t just another Discord alternative — it’s a complete ecosystem for gamers, creators, and esports teams.

We’re a tight-knit team of lifelong gamers, VoIP engineers, and entrepreneurs from the AR/VR and gaming industries. With fewer than ten people (versus 1,000 at Discord), we move fast, listen carefully, and build what gamers actually need. We work directly with esports organizations, streamers, and game developers to shape SONIX from real feedback — then ship improvements at lightning speed.

Our mission has four pillars:

  • Performance. Deliver the best technology to help gamers perform at their peak through AI-optimized voice, ultra-low latency, and real-time responsiveness.
  • Gamification. Make interaction and community engagement fun, personalized, 3D, and playable. SONIX empowers gamers, brands, and content creators to build gamified experiences that strengthen loyalty and community bonds.
  • Supporting Creators, Brands, and Esports Teams. Too many talented players and creators struggle to monetize their audiences. SONIX introduces the first integrated digital-asset marketplace, enabling creators to sell skins and virtual items while fans show support by using those assets on their avatars.
  • Protecting Privacy and Preventing Harassment. Toxicity and harassment plague many communication apps. SONIX was engineered safe-by-design, giving users full control over who joins their Crew, along with transparent data ownership from creation to deletion. (See our Privacy Policy for details.)

By combining Swiss-engineered precision, AI innovation, and community-first design, SONIX continues to redefine what communication means for competitive gaming and digital culture.

How does SONIX compare to Discord, Teamspeak, and Guilded?

When gamers look for communication tools, the first names that come up are Discord, Teamspeak, and Guilded. Each platform helped shape online gaming culture — but SONIX takes the next leap forward by combining AI voice technology, ultra-low latency, tournament integration, and community monetization inside one unified ecosystem.

Compared to Discord, SONIX focuses on performance and precision rather than casual social chat. Its proprietary SUPERSONIX AI audio engine delivers up to 100 ms faster voice latency, real-time AI noise cancellation, and echo suppression, giving competitive gamers the clarity they need during matches. While Discord thrives as a social platform, SONIX is built for esports communication, team performance, and creator monetization.

Compared to Teamspeak, SONIX eliminates the old-school need for manual server setup. Instead of running or renting servers, users create Crews — cloud-based, instant voice spaces that launch in two clicks. Teamspeak has always emphasized stability; SONIX modernizes that stability with AI-powered moderation, automatic setup, and cross-platform access on PC, Mac, mobile, and web.

Compared to Guilded, SONIX extends beyond team management into AI-enhanced performance. Guilded helps organize teams; SONIX helps them perform and grow — with integrated SONIX Arena tournaments, 3D avatars, mini-games, and a digital-asset marketplace that lets creators and teams earn from their communities.

In short, SONIX unites the strengths of all three platforms into a single, AI-driven communication and competition hub. It’s faster than Discord, simpler than Teamspeak, and more powerful than Guilded — purpose-built for the next generation of competitive gaming, esports, and creator communities.

Troubleshooting and Support

You can contact us anytime at support@sonix.gg for personalized assistance. SONIX also features a Help Assistant that offers instant guidance for latency, device configuration, and tournament management. Our support team continuously monitors user feedback to ensure SONIX remains the fastest, most reliable, and most secure AI gaming platform worldwide.

Settings to check before anything else
SONIX offers extensive audio settings covering noise cancellation, microphone sensitivity, gain control, and background noise reduction. If you encounter sound problems, open the Audio Settings menu first. Every gamer’s setup differs — headset brand, mic quality, and environment all affect results — so a quick fine-tune can dramatically enhance clarity.

Check your input/output device settings
Operating systems sometimes select the wrong default audio device. In SONIX, open the device list and confirm the correct input (microphone) and output (headset or speakers). Use Test Input (you should hear yourself) and Test Output (you should hear a tone) to verify. Click the heart icon beside your preferred device to make it the default whenever it’s reconnected. Remember: even tech giants haven’t fully solved the classic “I can’t hear you” moment — so a quick check saves time!

Verify mute status and Push-to-Talk
Ensure neither you nor your teammate is muted, and confirm your Push-to-Talk keybind is active. A misconfigured shortcut is one of the most common causes of silent channels.

Adjust microphone sensitivity
If Push-to-Talk is disabled, set microphone sensitivity carefully. Too high means you must shout; too low captures background noise. Adjust until your voice activates reliably without over-triggering ambient sounds.

Review volume levels
SONIX provides both global volume control and per-user volume (accessible via the three-dot menu on each friend’s avatar). Use these to balance teammates’ voices for the ideal competitive mix.
